Love this charming cover art by William Church from the early printings of these two Runequest scenarios. So cuddly! The broos (goatmen) on the Snakepipe Hollow cover look so cute! Don’t you just want to hug them? Too bad they are HORRIBLE CHAOS-TAINTED RAPE MONSTERS who worship a GODDESS OF RAPE. So, no: broos are not for hugging. Broos are not good bros.
Apple Lane was Runequest’s intro module, packaged in the box set like The Keep on the Borderlands was with the D&D Basic Set. And much like Keep, this printing pictured is pretty easy to get a hold of, though not always with the yellow cover, or in great condition. I haven’t seen this printing of Snakepipe Hollow in person or on Ebay yet, but it’s the one I want, so I’ve got an eye out.
Runequest is my current obsession. I’d always found the game, and its associated world of Glorantha, intriguing, but could never quite get a handle on either one until recently.
I wrote this about a year or two ago and didn’t post it until yesterday. Runequest is no longer a current obsession, more an ongoing one.

let’s start out Wednesday Night Gaming with two glorious bundle sales, because what is being a gamer without consumerism?
so you’ve probably heard of the Humble Bundle sales. the Humble Indie Bundle 8 was announced Tuesday morning and is available for the next two weeks. pay more than the average (currently USD$5.69) and get Hotline Miami and Proteus, along with five other indie games. of course I went and bought Hotline Miami a few weeks ago, but the rest of the bundle also looks pretty choice. as always, the Humble Bundle supports the EFF and Child’s Play.
but a bundle you may not know about is the Bundle of Holding, a pay-what-you-want sale for four to six indie tabletop rpgs in pdf format, supporting the Mines Advisory Group and Doctors Without Borders. pay more than the average (USD$13.68 as of this writing) and get Hollowpoint and Monsterhearts, a story game about the messy lives of teenage monsters, powered by the Apocalypse World engine. Monsterhearts is one of the smartest, clearest, and most stylish implementations of AW, and to get this and five other rpgs for under $15 is a steal, and there’s only about four days left in the sale, so get cracking.

Minecraft comic series by
This is a really cool take on how Minecraft would work ‘realistically’. Love it!
Hooooooooooooooooooooly fuck that’s awesome.
Literally the best interpretation of Minecraft I have ever seen I really want more.
Wednesday Comics loves webcomics, both continuing and one-offs. And with this Minecraft comic, we’re subtly segueing into Wednesday Night Gaming!

Warlock 7, December 1985/January 1986. John Blanche, 1985.
Apparently starring Colin Baker as one of the Hobbits and David Coverdale as Legolas.
let me tell some of you young cats something: one of my life regrets is that I wasn’t even more of a geek when I was, like, 12 and 13. should have read twice as many comics. should have stuck with D & D instead of quitting immediately upon finding out you couldn’t really “just take your chances” against monsters you weren’t equipped to fight. geek hard my friends. geek hard.
John Darnielle from The Mountain Goats sends a message to the youth.
so fucking true, but it’s never too late to get started!

Subhumans, Jerry’s Kids, D.Y.S. Kilslug @ The Channel
Awesome poster. I think I’ve seen that image before somewhere.
(Kids, if this version is confusing then this is as good a place to start as any. Lyrics NSFW, or for any other part of The System. Enjoy.)
